Basic Modeling Clay
Basic but functional clay recipe. Based on easy to find and cheap ingredients.
4 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
1 tsp of powdered alum
1 1/2 cups of water
Mix all the ingredients. If dry, use extra water. If you want color, add food coloring.
Bake for 30 minutes at 250 degrees. Turn and bake for 1 1/2 hours more. This is a functional and easy to make clay, enjoy.

Can I use cornflour in place of cornstarch? Are they the same thing?
If you’re from the UK, you’re most likely talking bout the same thing, but there are actually two different products. Ask at your local store just to be certain. You want the starch, not the flour.
how long will it take to dry?
You will have to give it atleast a couple of hours.
does this work well?
It works very well.
How much clay does this make?
I just never measured the finished clay, but it makes enough for most I would think.
Thank you for posting this! I plan to make impressions of my babies hands for Christmas ornaments as gifts for their grand parents.
Do the scented clays keep their smell?
Great idea!
They will keep their smell for quite some time, but it will disappear gradually. Keeping the scent for when opening christmas presents should be no problem at all.
